BII is a registered charity and the leading professional body for the licensed retail sector. BII’s mission is to promote high standards of professionalism throughout the licensed retail sector; to encourage new entrants into the industry, and to help them develop their long-term careers.

Wholly owned by BII, BIIAB is the leading awarding body for the licensed retail sector. BIIAB is accredited by Ofqual and the Scottish Qualifications Authority. Over 1.5 million BIIAB qualifications have been processed to date.

The British Beer & Pub Association is the leading body representing Britain’s brewers and pub companies. The Association exists to promote and protect one of the nation’s most iconic and important industries.

The Perceptions Group is a voluntary organisation, which champions the pub and bar sector and aims to show young people the wide range of career opportunities available in the industry.  The purpose of the group looks to address the negative image of careers within pubs and bars and to encourage young people to consider the sector as somewhere where they can pursue a rewarding career.


The group was formed up by a number of senior executives from across the pub and bar industry and is backed by senior members of industry and the trade associations including the BBPA (BritishBeer & Pub Association) and the ALMR (Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers) and the professional membership association the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII). The programme is supported by all the major pub and bar operators and suppliers to the sector.
